MDF vs. Beechwood: The Great Family Debate
So here I am, sitting at the dinner table, just trying to enjoy my meal, when my mother-in-law suddenly drops the question:
“Why on earth would you buy MDF when beechwood is obviously stronger?”
I mean, fair point. Everyone knows “solid beech” sounds like the Superman of furniture while MDF has a PR problem—most people think it’s basically pressed sawdust or glorified cardboard. But let’s actually put the two in the ring for a fair fight, shall we?
Round One: What They’re Made Of
Beechwood
100% natural wood. Great… until it starts acting like, well, natural wood.
Spanish MDF
85% pine wood, 15% special treatments that fight off bugs, rot, and the weird diseases that hit natural wood.
Winner: MDF (because “immune system” matters)
Round Two: Design Potential
Beechwood
Try carving it into creative modern shapes… good luck. You’ll end up with either chunky, heavy furniture or something that looks like grandma’s old wardrobe.
Spanish MDF
Flexible, easy to shape, and adored by designers worldwide for bedrooms, kitchens, and dressing rooms.
Winner: MDF (sorry, grandma)
Round Three: Colors & Finishes
Beechwood
Covering it with PVC or CPL is nearly impossible. Translation: zero color variety.
Spanish MDF
Over 100 colors, plus CPL and PVC layers that add both style and protection.
Winner: MDF (and your wife, who finally gets a bedroom in “champagne beige” instead of boring brown)
Beechwood
Solid, yes… but fashion-wise? Old news.
Spanish MDF
Modern, versatile, and literally recommended by international designers.
Winner: MDF (move over, nostalgia)
Round Five: Durability in Real Life
Beechwood
Like all natural wood, it hates heat and water. Leave a cup of tea unattended and watch the panic.
Spanish MDF
Strong resistance to both. Practical and reliable.
Winner: MDF (your furniture survives your clumsy kids)
Round Six: Price Tag (The Knockout)
Beechwood Master Bedroom
Around 120,000 EGP.
Spanish MDF Master Bedroom
About 80,000 EGP.
So yeah, unless you’re dying to spend an extra 40,000 EGP just to say “it’s beechwood,” the smarter option is obvious.
By the end of the debate, my mother-in-law wasn’t convinced.
She still swears by beechwood because “it lasted in her house for 30 years.” Fair enough. But in my house? I’ll take modern design, durability, 100+ colors, and a price tag that doesn’t give me a heart attack.
And oh—our Spanish MDF comes with a 5-year warranty. Try arguing with that, mom. 😉
